Advise on career
« on: August 05, 2007, 06:11:13 AM »
HI,

I am currently embarking on an external mba program in my bid to learn more about business.
However I am also keen to move out of my current job as I see no development potential anymore - no learning.
Any suggustions on where i can consider cos I am quite lost.
I have a technical degree with 4yrs in the pharma sales and marketing, but is not quite keen to explore there any longer.
Would my main considerations for a job be one that can complement my mba or something that can lead me into an industry that i am interested in.
Am willing to take a massive pay cut in view of future development or aspirations.

Well if u think that it is a waste of time to take my mba, while moving industry.
Pls tell me so as well, I am keen to hear any advise

Thanks ........

Hi,

In my opinion, it's always a gain to further study, however, it may not always be financial gains.
While mba holder is highly regarded (at least higher than a non mba  ;D ), many companies value experiences more than educational degree, especially at mid-level career. So if you're at middle level career, don't expect much of adjustment just because you've completed your MBA.
Since you have only 4 years experience, i assume you're still young. It's a good option to start your career all over again in the field that matches to your educational background, though you have to have less earnings, like joining Management Development Program in MNC. You may have to suffer initially, but you have much better chance to go far.

cheers!
